Recommended Books

I frequently am asked by my patients what books I recommend people read or purchase to help guide their food choices and health decisions.
Here is an abbreviated list that I will add to:
1) Food That Grows, by Tanda Cook, ND, and Sara Marshall, ND: a fantastic cookbook for gluten and dairy free foods from the heart of the Earth.
 
2) Nourishing Traditions, by Sally Fallon. A great book supported by the Weston Price Foundation without the influence of 'diet dictocracts" as she says.
 
3) Nutrition 1-2-3, by Dr. Tom Ballard, RN, ND. A no-nonsense approach to nutrition
 
4) Everyday Paleo, by Sara Fragoso and Robb Wolf. Great Paleo recipes.
 
5) Healing with Whole Foods: Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition, by Paul Pichford. A very comprehensive text that discusses the thermal and energetic healing qualities of foods and their organ affinities.
 
6) Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers: The Secrets of Ancient Fermentation, by Stephen Harrod Buhner. A fascinating text on the medicinal qualities of ancient fermented beverages.
 
7) Vaccinations: A Thoughtful Parents' Guide, By Aviva Jill Romm. A user-friendly approach to understanding vaccinations.
 
8) The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book: Protect Yourself and Your Family from Heart Disease, Arthritis, Diabetes, Allergies- and More, by Dr. Jessica K. Black, ND. This book is helpful for those who are following an anti-inflammatory diet.
 
9) Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef: A Love Story with 100 Tempting Recipes, By Shauna James Ahern. She's an amazing cook and has some amazing recipes!
 
10) Home Remedies: Hydrotherapy, Massage, Charcoal, and Other Simple Treatments, by Agatha Thrash. A definitive standby for home treatments (written in 1981).
 
11) Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler, MPH. A wonderful guide for women to track fertility throughout the month.
